  Oats are a tasty grain suitable for all animal species. Oat protein has a good amino acid profile, including high lysine content. The fat content is high, and oats also have a beneficial fiber composition that can have a positive effect on gut health, especially in young animals. Oats are one of the common grains with the lowest starch content. Combined with a high fiber content, it provides a gentle raw material but with lower energy content compared to, for example, barley and wheat. Often, it is oat's low energy concentration that limits its use for high-producing animals. When feeding with individual raw materials, the feed must be supplemented with extra vitamins and minerals, regardless of animal species. Sometimes additional protein is also needed. Available as whole oats and as crushed oats. Crushed oats have limited durability because oats are rich in fat, which can become rancid when exposed to air. Oat starch has high digestibility for horses, making it an excellent feed for horses. Crushed oats are a good alternative for horses with dental problems. A common ration for an adult horse is 0.5-3 kg per day.
