  Popular type of grain suitable for all types of animals. Nutritionally, barley can be considered somewhere between oats and wheat in terms of fiber, starch, and energy content. Barley can constitute the entire grain portion in the feed ration for most animal types. When feeding with individual raw materials, the feed ration must be supplemented with extra vitamins and minerals, regardless of the animal type. Sometimes extra protein is also needed.

  Available as whole barley and as crushed barley. Crushed barley has a somewhat limited shelf life as it can be affected when exposed to the air.

  Barley starch has lower small intestine digestibility than oats and is preferred by certain horses, especially those that tend to become very active from oats. A common feed amount for an adult horse is 0.4-3 kg of barley per day. It is most common to feed barley either crushed or soaked.
