  Popular grain suitable for all animal species. Nutritionally, barley is somewhere between oats and wheat in terms of fiber, starch, and energy content. Barley can constitute the entire grain portion in the feed for most animal species. When feeding with individual raw materials, the feed must be supplemented with extra vitamins and minerals, regardless of animal species. Sometimes additional protein is also needed.

  Available as whole barley and as crushed barley. Crushed barley has a somewhat limited shelf life as it can be affected when exposed to air.

  Barley starch has lower small intestine digestibility than oats, and is preferred for certain horses, especially those that tend to become very active with oats. A common ration for an adult horse is 0.4-3 kg of barley per day. It is common to feed barley either crushed or soaked.
